Important game to mention about took place in Tokyo. Tenth ranked Hitachi Cougars (9-24) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 8th ranked Niigata (11-22) 63-62 on Sunday evening. It looked good early as Niigata took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hitachi Cougars had a 26-3 second period charge getting the lead and Niigata was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-63. Hitachi Cougars dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata to just 3 points in second quarter. They made 20-of-20 charity shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Hitachi Cougars had a 56-44 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 17 long-distance shots on high 51.5 percentage. Hitachi Cougars brought some defensive toughness making 205 blocks. Niigata was plagued by 40 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Kasumi Takahashi (167-87) scored 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Aiko Ishihara (178-92) chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side guard Nozomi Hoshino (164-87) responded with 11 points and 7 assists and forward Miya Maki (172-90) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Four Niigata players scored in double figures. Hitachi Cougars have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Aishin AW. Niigata lost fourth consecutive game.
