D1 top team - BC Astana (23-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifth ranked BK Almaty (0-24) 107-71. The game was mostly controlled by BC Astana. BK Almaty was better in fourth quarter 26-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. BC Astana forced 20 BK Almaty turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by BK Almaty's players. It was a great evening for American-Greek swingman Pat Calathes (208-85, college: St.Joseph's) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. American-Montenegrin guard Brion Rush (186-84, college: Grambling St., agency: Beo Basket) helped adding 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five BC Astana players scored in double figures. At the losing side swingman Anton Kotenko (193-84) responded with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Anzor Yagodkin (188-85) scored 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. BC Astana have an impressive series of fifteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 23-1 record. BK Almaty at the other side still closes the standings.
