Regular Season Round 36: Le Portel - St Vallier 83-78

Everything went according to plan when fifth ranked Le Portel (22-14) beat at home bottom-ranked Saint Vallier (11-25) 83-78 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The game without a history. Le Portel led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Gary Chathuant (193-83) who scored 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Guard Benoit Mangin (194-88) chipped in 18 points and 5 assists. Le Portel's coach Eric Girard used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American Steve Smith (200-81, college: Iona) who recorded 16 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Harry Disy (200-84, college: Louisiana Tech) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Four Saint Vallier players scored in double figures. Le Portel have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Maurienne. Loser Saint Vallier stay at the bottom position with 25 games lost. Le Portel will meet at home Lille Metropole (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Saint Vallier will play against SPO Rouen and hope to secure a win.
