Regular Season Round 36: Hyeres-Toulon - Denain 84-80

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Denain Voltaire (17-19) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked Hyeres-Toulon (19-17) 84-80 on Friday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Hyeres-Toulon dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Denain Voltaire's 26. They outrebounded Denain Voltaire 42-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Tyren Johnson (202-88, college: La-Lafayette) who scored 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import power forward Kurt Cunningham (205-87, college: Boise St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds. Four Hyeres-Toulon players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Maurice Acker (176-87, college: Marquette) who recorded 22 points and 6 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and forward Valentin Bigote (196-92) added 16 points respectively. Denain Voltaire's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hyeres-Toulon moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Fos Ouest. Loser Denain Voltaire dropped to the eleventh position with 19 games lost. They share it with Boulazac. Hyeres-Toulon will meet Nantes (#15) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Denain Voltaire will play against the league's second-placed SO Maritime Boulogne (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
