Regular Season Round 18: Trotamundos - Bucaneros 84-78

No shocking result in a game in Valencia where third ranked Trotamundos (16-9) defeated 9th ranked Bucaneros (9-17) 84-78 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Bucaneros won third quarter 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Trotamundos made 32-of-40 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game, while Bucaneros only scored six points from the stripe. Bucaneros were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Dominican forward Jack Michael Martinez (201-81) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 18 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). American Robert Glenn (201-89, college: IUPUI) chipped in 27 points. Trotamundos' coach Jorge Arrieta used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international power forward Hector Romero (202-80, college: New Orleans) who recorded 22 points and 9 rebounds and American swingman Winsome Frazier (193-82, college: Mississippi St.) added 16 points and 6 assists respectively. Trotamundos have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 16-9 record having just two points less than leader Cocodrilos. Loser Bucaneros keep the ninth place with 17 games lost. Trotamundos will face league's second-placed Marinos in Puerto La Cruz in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bucaneros will play at home against Gaiteros (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
