Regular Season Round 50: Aomori Watts - Shinshu BW 82-78

There was a minor upset when one of their biggest challengers Shinshu BW (28-15) lost on the road to sixth ranked Aomori Watts (23-21) 82-78 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-13. But Shinshu BW won third quarter 33-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aomori Watts dominated on the defensive end, holding Shinshu BW to just 6 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Shinshu BW 44-33 including 31 on the defensive glass. Shinshu BW was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Guyanese-American forward Gordon Klaiber (206-83, college: Fair Dickinson) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Yuki Kitamuki (184-85) contributed with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American forward Patrick Sanders (198-85, college: Cal-Irvine) replied with 21 points and his fellow American import power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: Florida St.) added 15 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Shinshu BW. Shinshu BW's coach Ryuji Kawai tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Aomori Watts moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Fukuoka Rizing. Loser Shinshu BW keeps the fourth position with 15 games lost. Aomori Watts will face league's second-placed Toyama Grouses on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Shinshu BW will play against Saitama Broncos and hope to win that game.
