There was a small surprise when third ranked Iwate Big Bulls (32-12) beat one of their biggest challengers Hamamatsu Phoenix (25-19) in Mikawa 87-75 on Sunday. Hamamatsu Phoenix was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 31-14 charge of Iwate Big Bulls, which allowed them to win the game. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. American players dominated the game. Forward Scootie Randall (198-90, college: Temple, agency: Norton Sports Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 5 assists. Forward Josh Peppers (201-85, college: Cent.Florida, agency: Court Side) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Iwate Big Bulls players scored in double figures. Guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh) replied with 29 points and 4 assists and power forward Cyrus Tate (203-85, college: Iowa) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Hamamatsu Phoenix. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Iwate Big Bulls have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 32-12 record having five points less than leader Akita NH which they share with defeated Hamamatsu Phoenix. Hamamatsu Phoenix lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the third place with 19 games lost. Iwate Big Bulls will face league's leader Akita Happinets on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hamamatsu Phoenix will play against Shiga L-Stars and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
