Regular Season Round 24: Azpeitia - Askatuak 74-57

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 13th ranked Askatuak's (5-18) road loss to twelfth ranked Azpeitia (8-14) 57-74 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Azpeitia. Askatuak was better in fourth quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Askatuak to just 7 points in second quarter. Strangely Askatuak outrebounded Azpeitia 43-29 including 28 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Lithuanian center Gediminas Zyle (210-88) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 rebounds and guard Ander Arruti (189-90) who added 13 points and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was center Malick Fall (211-92) with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds and forward Aritz Martinez (201-82) scored 8 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Azpeitia moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Marin and Cambados. Askatuak lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. Azpeitia will face Cambados (#11) on the road in the next round. Askatuak will play against Castello and hope to win that game.
