Regular Season Round 16: Hoops - Al Riyadi 72-78
Date: April 2, 2014
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Al Riyadi (#3) and Hoops Club (#10). Despite it looked like an easy game for Al Riyadi, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Host Hoops Club challenged much higher ranked Al Riyadi giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by six points 78-72. Hoops Club was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. International swingman Jean Abdel Nour (198-83) fired a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. The former international forward Ali Haidar (201-90, college: Michigan Tech) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Five Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. American guard Brandon Johnson (183-86, college: San Diego, agency: Haylett Sports) produced 16 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and Palestinian center Sani Sakakini (204-88) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Al Riyadi have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion (12-4) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Sagesse and Amchit. Hoops Club lost eleventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 15 games lost. Al Riyadi will meet at home Al Moutahed (#4) in the next round. Hoops Club's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Homenetm. B.
