Avides cruised past Gruenberg for the opening win in the series. The game without a history. Rotenburg/Scheessel led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They held Baskets Grunberg to an opponent 20.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.3 percent accuracy of the winners and made 24-of-31 charity shots (77.4 percent) during the game. Rotenburg/Scheessel forced 25 Baskets Grunberg turnovers and outrebounded them 53-27 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. American power forward Kierra Mallard (190-90, college: Texas Tech) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points and 21 rebounds for the winning side and her fellow American import guard Janae Young (183-87, college: Pacific) accounted for 13 points and 9 rebounds. Five Rotenburg/Scheessel players scored in double figures. Rotenburg/Scheessel's coach Christian Greve felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Isabell Meinhart (176-94) came up with 14 points and center Kira Barra (188-98) added 6 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Baskets Grunberg in the defeat.
