Regular Season Round 43: Hokkaido L. - Chiba Jets 72-74

A very interesting game took place in Saporro. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd placed Hokkaido L. (29-20) to sixth ranked Chiba Jets (17-32) 74-72 on Saturday evening. It looked good early as Hokkaido L. took an 9-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Chiba Jets had a 23-9 second period charge getting the lead and Hokkaido L. was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-74. Chiba Jets shot 35 for 62 from the free-throw line, while Hokkaido L. only scored sixteen points from the stripe. Chiba Jets forced 83 Hokkaido L. turnovers. They shot the lights out from three nailing 28 long-distance shots on high 60.9 percentage. Chiba Jets brought some defensive toughness making 18 blocks. 91 personal fouls committed by Hokkaido L. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Alan Wiggins (206-85, college: USF) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Yuta Miyanga (183-81) accounted for 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Four Chiba Jets players scored in double figures. American power forward Jameel Watkins (211-77, college: Georgetown) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks and the other American import forward Jerome Tillman (201-87, college: Ohio, agency: KMG Sports Management) added 17 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Hokkaido L. in the defeat. Hokkaido L.'s coach Juan Manuel Hurtado tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Chiba Jets have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newly promoted Chiba Jets maintains sixth place with 17-32 record. Hokkaido L. lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the third position with 20 games lost. Chiba Jets' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Toyota Alvark in Tokyo and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hokkaido L. will play on the road against the league's leader Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
