Regular Season Round 25: Cambados - Azpeitia 60-73

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Azpeitia and 11th ranked Cambados had identical 8-14 record. But Cambados was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Azpeitia 73-60 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Azpeitia. Cambados was better in third quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Azpeitia won last quarter 18-6. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Cambados to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Nigerian-American forward Ike Okoye (206-86, college: Boise St.) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Ibon Guridi (193-92) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists. Four Azpeitia players scored in double figures. Center Alberto Rodriguez (206-75) produced 9 points and 10 rebounds and naturalized Senegalese power forward Mamadou Diop (201-93) added 7 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Azpeitia (9-14) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Zornotza. Cambados lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Azpeitia will face higher ranked Araberri (#8) in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cambados will play on the road against Castello in Castellon and hope to win that game.
