The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Gernika (18-3) in S'Arenal on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by tenth ranked IF Air Europa (7-14) 80-62. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Gernika. The game without a history. IF Air Europa led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Gernika's 30. IF Air Europa forced 36 Gernika turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Gernika helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Ashley Bruner (183, college: S.Carolina) who led her team to a victory with 25 points and 5 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Ieasia Walker (173, college: S.Carolina) contributed with 18 points and 4 steals for the winners. Naiara Diez (181-87, agency: Regeneracom Sports) answered with 8 points and 6 rebounds and Araia Pena added 14 points in the effort for Gernika. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. IF Air Europa moved-up to eighth place in Group B, which they share with Dist.Olimpico and Araski AES. Gernika at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. IF Air Europa is looking forward to face higher ranked Leganes (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gernika will play against the league's second-placed Alcobendas (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
