The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Toyama Grouses as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Toyama Grouses defeated 6th ranked Aomori Watts at home 89-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Aomori Watts. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Aomori Watts won fourth quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyama Grouses made 29-of-37 free shots (78.4 percent) during the game, while Aomori Watts only scored eight points from the stripe. 27 personal fouls committed by Aomori Watts helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: Norton Sports Management) helped adding 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Guyanese-American forward Gordon Klaiber (206-83, college: Fair Dickinson) with 20 points and 6 rebounds and American power forward Anthony Kent (208-83, college: Ball St.) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Toyama Grouses and five Aomori Watts players scored in double figures. Aomori Watts' coach Shiko Kotobuki rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Toyama Grouses (36-10) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Aomori Watts at the other side keep the sixth place with 22 games lost. Aomori Watts will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Toyama Grouses will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Aomori Watts at home.
