Rather expected game when 4th placed Tsukuba R. (8-41) was rolled over on the road by second ranked Wakayama T. (35-12) 108-44 on Sunday. The game without a history. Wakayama T. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tsukuba R. to just 5 points in first quarter. Wakayama T. dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Tsukuba R.'s 30. They outrebounded Tsukuba R. 43-23 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Wakayama T. looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Tsukuba R.'s players. American forward Michael Parker (202-81, college: Evergreen St.) fired 25 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. His fellow American import power forward Rick Rickert (211-83, college: Minnesota, agency: SportsTalent) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Five Wakayama T. players scored in double figures. Center Keisuke Umetsu (196-86) produced 6 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Ren Kimura (169-92) added 8 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Wakayama T. have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Newly promoted Wakayama T. maintains second place with 35-12 record having seven points less than leader Aishin SH. Tsukuba R. lost third consecutive game. Tsukuba R. at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fourth position with 41 games lost. Wakayama T. will face Mitsubishi Dolphins (#3) in Nagoya in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Tsukuba R. will play at home against Hyogo S. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
