Regular Season Round 28: Matera - Roseto 81-92
Date: April 6, 2014
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Matera (16-12) against tenth ranked Roseto (14-14) on Sunday night. Host Matera was defeated by Roseto in Matera 92-81. The game was mostly controlled by Roseto. Matera was better in third quarter 25-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Matera's 38. The winners were led by American guard Alex Legion (195-88, college: FIU) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import guard Kevin Sowell (190-81, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 18 points and 6 assists. Sowell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Kyle Austin (203-88, college: Cal-Riverside) did not help to save the game for Matera. The former international power forward Massimo Rezzano (203-82) added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Four Matera players scored in double figures. Roseto moved-up to ninth place. Matera at the other side dropped to the fourth position with 12 games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Roseto will play against Firenze (#14) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Matera will play against the league's leader Agrigento (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
