There was no surprise when 8th ranked Meccanica NB (1-7) was outleveled by third ranked Catania (6-1) in Bologna 72-49 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Catania. Meccanica NB was better in third quarter 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Catania forced 27 Meccanica NB turnovers. Guard Maria Buzzanca (171-76) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 4 steals (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Czech center Renata Brezinova (190-90) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Valeria De Pretto (185-91) replied with 15 points and 7 rebounds and the former international forward Alessandra Tava (183-91) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Meccanica NB. Catania have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in Promotion Group B. Loser Meccanica NB keeps the eighth position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
