Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan and 5th ranked Mineros de Caborca had identical 2-4 record. This time Caballeros de Culiacan used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Cananea 88-83 on Tuesday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Mineros de Caborca won third quarter 23-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Caballeros de Culiacan dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Mineros de Caborca's 32. They outrebounded Mineros de Caborca 46-32 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Fred Hooks (198-82, college: Humboldt St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds. His fellow American import Benjamin Puckett (205-83, college: Clayton St., agency: I.D.S. Law) helped adding 22 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side naturalized American forward Quentin Gonzalez (200-84, college: McNeese St.) responded with 24 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Jason Horton (188-86, college: Missouri) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan (3-4) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Navolato. Loser Mineros de Caborca dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will face again Mineros de Caborca (#8) in Cananea in the next round.
