Regular Season Round 9: Guasave - Nogales 84-88

Bottom-ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales managed to get a second victory. This time they won against fourth-ranked Frayles de Guasave 88-84. It looked good early as Frayles de Guasave took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Fuerza Guinda Nogales had a 20-13 second period charge getting the lead and Frayles de Guasave was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 84-88. They outrebounded Frayles de Guasave 36-23 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Frayles de Guasave was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Reeves Nelson (203-91, college: UCLA) who led his team to a victory with 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field). Forward Jorge Mercado (200-80) contributed with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American center DeAngelo Riley (206-88, college: Azusa Pacific) answered with 26 points and 9 rebounds and guard Victor Buelna (192-78) added 14 points in the effort for Frayles de Guasave. Fuerza Guinda Nogales maintains ninth place with 2-8 record. Frayles de Guasave at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Fuerza Guinda Nogales will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Frayles de Guasave will play again at home against Fuerza Guinda Nogales (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
