Regular Season Round 31: St Chamond - Quimper 97-84

Very expected game when 10th ranked Quimper UJAP (14-16) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Saint Chamond (20-11) 97-84 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Saint Chamond. Quimper UJAP was better in second period 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Saint Chamond shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 53.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Lithuanian swingman Mantas Ruikis (194-85) fired 28 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Forward Jean-Stephane Rinna (205-83) chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Saint Chamond's coach Alain Thinet used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Romain Gregoire (201-91) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and guard Gary Staelens (189-84) added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Five Saint Chamond and four Quimper UJAP players scored in double figures. Saint Chamond have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Sorgues. Quimper UJAP at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with 16 games lost. Saint Chamond will face higher ranked La Rochelle (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Quimper UJAP will play against ADA Blois (#8) and hope to win that game.
