Rather expected game in San Sebastian where 12th ranked CB Canarias (10-17) was defeated by tenth ranked Gipuzkoa (12-15) 70-66. After very bad start, CB Canarias stormed back in the second period cutting the deficit to 3 points 37-34. But it was not enough and Gipuzkoa took back the control in second half. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. 38 personal fouls committed by CB Canarias helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for center David Doblas (206-81) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Jason Robinson (195-80, college: Pikeville) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Gipuzkoa players scored in double figures. Argentinian-Italian point guard Nicolas Richotti (184-86) answered with 25 points and 6 rebounds and Australian-Dutch power forward Daniel Kickert (208-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for CB Canarias. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gipuzkoa. They maintain tenth place with 12-15 record. CB Canarias lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh position with 17 games lost. Gipuzkoa's next round opponent will be Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (#13) in Madrid. CB Canarias will play at home against Laboral Kutxa and hope to win that game.
