Regular Season Round 54: Sendai 89ers - Toyama Grouses 88-95

BJ League top team - Toyama Grouses (39-10) added another victory to their record. This time they beat seventh ranked Sendai 89ers (23-25) 95-88. It looked good early as Sendai 89ers took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Toyama Grouses had a 22-16 second period charge getting the lead and Sendai 89ers were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 88-95. Toyama Grouses forced 20 Sendai 89ers turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Sendai 89ers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: Norton Sports Management) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Joho Masashi (183-82) contributed with 21 points and 7 assists for the winners. American forward DeAngelo Casto (203-90, college: Washington St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and British power forward Dzaflo Larkai (203-81, college: Bellarmine) added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Sendai 89ers. Five Toyama Grouses and four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Toyama Grouses have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 39-10 record. Sendai 89ers at the other side keep the seventh place with 25 games lost. Toyama Grouses will have a break next round. Sendai 89ers will play on the road against Shinshu BW (#4) in Nagano and hope to win that game.
