Regular Season Round 28: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel T-A 85-79

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Maccabi Haifa's (18-9) home victory over 5th ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (15-12) 85-79 on Thursday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Hapoel Tel-Aviv won third quarter 27-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Haifa looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (200-83, college: SE Illinois JC) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 6 assists and 5 steals and American Terrence Roderick (196-88, college: UAB, agency: Interperformances) who added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side American guard Carlon Brown (195-89, college: Colorado) responded with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import forward Justin Harper (208-89, college: Richmond) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Four Hapoel Tel-Aviv players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Hapoel Tel-Aviv lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 12 games lost. Maccabi Haifa will meet league's leader Maccabi T-A in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will play against the league's second-placed Hapoel Jerusalem (#2) and hope to secure a win.
