CAB Madeira surrendered against Lusitania at home court in the opener. The game without a history. Lusitania led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Lusitania outrebounded CAB Madeira 37-22 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. American point guard Jaime Smith (191-89, college: Al.-Huntsville) nailed 20 points and 8 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import center Marcel Momplaisir (205-81, college: Rhode Island, agency: Dynamics Global Management) accounted for 10 points and 12 rebounds. Four Lusitania players scored in double figures. Lusitania's coach Nuno Barroso allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international Jorge Coelho (200-78) came up with 25 points and point guard Jorge Freitas (182-88) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively for CAB Madeira in the defeat.
