Regular Season Round 55: Shinshu BW - Sendai 89ers 85-101

There was a minor upset in Nagano where 4th placed Shinshu BW (31-17) was defeated by seventh ranked Sendai 89ers (24-25) 101-85 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Sendai 89ers. Shinshu BW was better in third quarter 28-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sendai 89ers dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Shinshu BW's 30. They outrebounded Shinshu BW 54-35 including 17 on the offensive glass. Shinshu BW was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Wendell Wendell (198-84, college: UNLV) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 19 rebounds for the winners. British power forward Dzaflo Larkai (203-81, college: Bellarmine) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds. Five Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. American forward Patrick Sanders (198-85, college: Cal-Irvine) produced 30 points and the other American import power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: Florida St.) added 17 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks respectively for lost side. Shinshu BW's coach Ryuji Kawai rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Sendai 89ers maintains seventh place with 24-25 record. Shinshu BW at the other side keeps the fourth position with 17 games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round. Shinshu BW will play again against Sendai 89ers (#7) and hope to win that game.
