Regular Season Round 14: Caborca - Guasave 80-83

Ninth-ranked Mineros de Caborca (2-10) made lots of trouble for third ranked Frayles de Guasave (9-3) in Cananea on Tuesday. The visitors from Guasave managed to secure only three-point victory 83-80. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Frayles de Guasave made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Strangely Mineros de Caborca outrebounded Frayles de Guasave 27-15. American forward John Millsap (198-82, college: UTSA) scored 29 points to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Jeremie Hart (188, college: McMurry) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Millsap is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. American swingman Justin Watts (196-90, college: N.Carolina) responded with 22 points and 6 assists and the former international forward Michael Strobbe (201-85) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Frayles de Guasave have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Tijuana. Mineros de Caborca lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Frayles de Guasave will meet at home Tijuana Zonkeys (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Mineros de Caborca will play against the league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo (#1) and hope to secure a win.
