There was a minor upset when 11th ranked Eagles (3-8) lost to fourteenth ranked Cougars (2-6) in Morley 85-101 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 101-85. Cougars outrebounded Eagles 52-34 including a 41-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Cougars especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Cougars made 11 blocks. Eagles were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for swingman Gavin Field (200-89, college: W.Georgia) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks. American center Anthony Borden (208, college: Cent.Arkansas) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Sunday Dech (190) answered with 26 points and guard Joe-Alan Tupaea (190-81) added 14 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Eagles. Five Cougars and four Eagles players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cougars moved-up to thirteenth place in League. Loser Eagles keep the eleventh position with eight games lost. Cougars will face higher ranked Wanneroo (#6) in Joondalup in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
