Very expected game when 11th ranked Slammers (3-5) lost to first ranked Flames (9-2) in Bunbury 83-94 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 11 points. Flames made 31-of-36 free shots (86.1 percent) during the game. Slammers were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for American forward Cooper Land (203-88, college: Wright St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds. Power forward Thomas Remmerswaal (-86) contributed with 24 points for the winners. Five Flames players scored in double figures. Flames' coach Mark Utley allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Ty Harrelson (193-80, college: Wayland Baptist) answered with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists and naturalized American power forward Clive Weeden (206-87, college: Dartmouth) added 22 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Slammers. Flames maintains first place in League with 9-2 record. Loser Slammers dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Flames will face league's second-placed Buccaneers in Wonthella in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Slammers will play on the road against Suns (#14) in Kalamunda and hope to win that game.
