Regular Season Round 7: Geelong S. - Sandringham S. 87-86

A very close game took place in Geelong between Geelong Supercats and Sabres. First ranked Geelong Supercats (6-1) got a very close home victory over 4th placed Sabres (3-3). Geelong Supercats managed to escape with a 1-point win 87-86 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-21. But Sabres won second period 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for forward Ash Cannan (201-82, college: Colorado Christian) who led the winners and scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Mike Mercer (192-86, college: S.Florida) accounted for 19 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Five Geelong Supercats players scored in double figures. Geelong Supercats' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Michael Moore (188, college: Trine) came up with 36 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and the other American import forward Rayshawn Goins (198, college: JMU) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Sabres in the defeat. Geelong Supercats maintains first place in League with 6-1 record. Loser Sabres keep the fourth position with three games lost. Geelong Supercats will meet at home Kilsyth Cobras (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Sabres will play against Hobart Chargers and hope to secure a win.
