Regular Season Round 29: Laboral Kutxa - Bilbao Basket 76-70
Date: April 26, 2014
Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Bilbao Basket (11-18) lost to seventh ranked Laboral Kutxa (16-13) in Vitoria 70-76. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Bilbao Basket was ahead by 6 points after three quarters before a 25-13 charge of Laboral Kutxa, which allowed them to win the game. They made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. 38 personal fouls committed by Bilbao Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was international swingman Fernando San Emeterio (198-84) who scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. French guard Thomas Heurtel (188-89) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Laboral Kutxa's coach Sergio Scariolo used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Swedish-Croatian forward Damir Markota (209-85, agency: XL Basketball Agency) produced 18 points and 7 rebounds and international center German Gabriel (207-80) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Bilbao Basket players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Laboral Kutxa. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with CAI Zaragoza. Bilbao Basket at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. Laboral Kutxa's next round opponent will be higher ranked Regal FC Barcelona (#3) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bilbao Basket will play against the league's second-placed Valencia Basket (#2) and hope to win that game.
