Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked Hawks (4-4) were outscored at home by fifth ranked Redbacks (6-3) 113-93 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Redbacks. Hawks was better in third quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Quite impressive performance for New Zealand power forward Dennis Tawhiti (198-90) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Marshall Nelson (185-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Ben Purser (201-90, college: Augusta St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and American power forward Corey Easley (206-83, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) added 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Hawks. Five Redbacks and four Hawks players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Redbacks maintains fifth place in League with 6-3 record. Loser Hawks dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Redbacks will face Slammers (#9) in Bunbury in the next round. Hawks will play on the road against Stirling S. in Perth and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
