There was an upset when 4th placed Hume City Broncos (5-2) were outleveled at home by tenth ranked Whittlesea City (4-5) 93-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Whittlesea City. Hume City Broncos was better in third quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Whittlesea City dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Hume City Broncos' 46. They outrebounded Hume City Broncos 51-39 including a 23-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Whittlesea City looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Hume City Broncos' players. It was a very good performance for Jermaine Williams who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds. Jason Dirkx contributed with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Whittlesea City players scored in double figures. American forward Jamal Brown (198-78, college: TCU) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import guard Jermaine Maybank (193-82, college: Kansas St.) added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Hume City Broncos. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Whittlesea City moved-up to sixth place in League. Loser Hume City Broncos keep the fourth position with two games lost. Whittlesea City will face league's leader Stingrays in Geelong in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hume City Broncos will play against the league's second-placed Ringwood Hawks and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
