Regular Season Round 7: Lakeside L. - Geraldton B. 97-121
Date: April 26, 2014
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Buccaneers (7-3) crushed on the road 5th ranked Lightnings (6-3) 121-97 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Buccaneers's pressure prevailed and they won that period 30-11 extending their advantage to 24 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Lightnings' 52. Buccaneers looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. Quite impressive performance for American-Ghanian forward Odartey Blankson (199-82, college: UNLV, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized American swingman Benny Lewis (203-87, college: Benedict, agency: Warren Sports International) contributed with 41 points (!!!) and 6 assists for the winners. Worth to mention Lewis played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Forward Tom Parkinson (200-89) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Bradley Tinsley (191-89, college: Vanderbilt) added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Lightnings. Four Buccaneers and five Lightnings players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Buccaneers maintains second place in League with 7-3 record having just -17 point less than leader Brisbane C. Loser Lightnings dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Buccaneers will face league's leader Flames in Rockingham in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lightnings will play on the road against Cougars in Hamilton Hill and hope to win that game.
