Regular Season Round 29: Chalon - Pau-Lacq-Orthez 79-72

Date: April 26, 2014
Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (14-15) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked Chalon/Saor (17-12) 79-72 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 13 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 7 points. Chalon/Saor made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 24 Pau-Lacq-Orthez turnovers and outrebounded them 31-19 including 22 on the defensive glass. Swiss power forward Clint Capela (207-94) stepped up and scored 15 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and American point guard A.J. Slaughter (191-87, college: W.Kentucky, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. American guard D.J. Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland) responded with 16 points and 6 assists and the other American import point guard Michael Thompson (177-89, college: Northwestern) scored 11 points and 4 assists. Pau-Lacq-Orthez's coach Claude Bergeaud gave the chance to play for ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Chalon/Saor moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Nancy. Newly promoted Pau-Lacq-Orthez keeps the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Chalon/Saor will face JSF Nanterre (#10) on the road in the next round. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will play against JDA Dijon and hope to win that game.
