Regular Season Round 43: Poitiers - Denain 85-80

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Poitiers (25-18) defeated at home 11th ranked Denain Voltaire (20-23) 85-80. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts were already 17 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 30-18 Denain Voltaire's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 85-80 at the end of the game. Poitiers made 21-of-24 charity shots (87.5 percent) during the game. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American-Dominican swingman Jeff Greer (196-79, college: Rutgers) who led the winners and scored 32 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international Karim Souchu (198-79, college: Furman) accounted for 23 points for the winning side. American forward Brandon Brown (201-85, college: CS San Bernar.) came up with 17 points and 5 rebounds and guard Pierric Poupet (191-84) added 8 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists respectively for Denain Voltaire in the defeat. Four Denain Voltaire players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Poitiers. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Le Portel. Denain Voltaire at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 23 games lost. Poitiers' next round opponent will be league's leader SO Maritime Boulogne in Boulogne-sur-Mer and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Denain Voltaire will play at home against Saint-Quentin (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
