Eighth-ranked VOO Verviers-Pepinster (7-26) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Oostende (26-7) on Wednesday. The visitors from Oostende managed to secure only two-point victory 88-86. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-19. But VOO Verviers-Pepinster won second period 24-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Oostende made 31-of-40 free shots (77.5 percent) during the game. 27 personal fouls committed by VOO Verviers-Pepinster helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American guard Ryan Thompson (198-89, college: Rider) who led his team to a victory with 19 points. His fellow American import Wesley Wilkinson (206-84, college: Nebraska) contributed with 14 points for the winners. The former international guard Alexandre Libert (194-90) answered with 25 points and American point guard James Washington (182-87, college: Middle Tenn.St.) added 17 points and 4 assists in the effort for VOO Verviers-Pepinster. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Oostende have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 26-7 record. VOO Verviers-Pepinster lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 26 games lost. They share it with Brussels. Oostende are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Kangoeroes (#10) in Willebroek in the next round and are hoping to win another game. VOO Verviers-Pepinster will play on the road against Antwerp Giants and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
