There was an upset when higher ranked Trenkwalder RE (14-14) was defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Umana Venezia (12-16) 100-92 on Thursday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Trenkwalder RE won third quarter 23-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Trenkwalder RE 40-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. Umana Venezia looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Trenkwalder RE's players. Trenkwalder RE was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American Andre Smith (204-85, college: N.Dakota St.) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Five Umana Venezia and four Trenkwalder RE players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Umana Venezia maintains eleventh position with 12-16 record. Defending champion Trenkwalder RE keeps the seventh place with 14 games lost.
