Regular Season Round 19: Tijuana - Caborca 102-85

Very expected game when 9th ranked Mineros de Caborca (3-14) was defeated on the road by third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (12-5) 102-85. The game was mostly controlled by Tijuana Zonkeys. Mineros de Caborca was better in fourth quarter 27-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tijuana Zonkeys dominated on the defensive end, holding Mineros de Caborca to just 0 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Mineros de Caborca 38-22 including 17 on the offensive glass. Tijuana Zonkeys players were unselfish on offense dishing 36 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) who led the winners with a triple-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists. Guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan, agency: Elite Talent Exchange) accounted for 19 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Worth to mention Lathan played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Swingman Justin Watts (196-90, college: N.Carolina) came up with 33 points (!!!) and 7 assists and swingman Jaycen Herring (196-86, college: SE Missouri St., agency: COSMOS International SM) added 18 points and 6 assists respectively for Mineros de Caborca in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tijuana Zonkeys have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 12-5 record having just two points less than leader Hermosillo. Mineros de Caborca lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will again play against bottom-ranked Mineros de Caborca (#9) in Cananea in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mineros de Caborca will have a break next round.
