Seventh-ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (5-15) made lots of trouble for first ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (18-4) on Saturday. The visitors from Hermosillo managed to secure only four-point victory 93-89. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 11 points after three quarters before their 20-9 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 4-point victory in overtime. The best player for the winners was American guard Joel Smith (193-90, college: Northeastern) who scored 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import forward Emmanuel Little (196-85, college: N.Dakota) chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds. Little is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Billy White (203-89, college: San Diego St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Daniel Giron (175-89) added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 18-4 record. Ostioneros de Guaymas lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with 15 games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo will face Pioneros Los Mochis (#4) on the road in the next round. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against Fuerza Guinda Nogales (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
