Regular Season Round 24: Tijuana - Culiacan 89-92

There was a minor upset when 3rd ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (14-6) were edged at home by fifth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (11-11) 92-89 on Saturday. Tijuana Zonkeys were trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 34-23 charge of Caballeros de Culiacan, which allowed them to win the game. Caballeros de Culiacan had a 33-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Leroy Davis (200-81, college: Georgia St.) who had a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. Swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan, agency: Elite Talent Exchange) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals and forward James Penny (198-76, college: TCU) added 30 points respectively. Four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Caballeros de Culiacan maintains fifth position with 11-11 record. Tijuana Zonkeys at the other side keep the third place with six games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will face bottom-ranked Mineros de Caborca (#9) in Cananea in the next round. Tijuana Zonkeys will play at home against Garra Canera de Navolato (#6) and hope to win that game.
