Regular Season Round 25: Caborca - Culiacan 84-91

Very expected game when 9th ranked Mineros de Caborca (5-18) lost to fifth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (12-11) in Cananea 84-91. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-17. But Mineros de Caborca won second period 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Caballeros de Culiacan shot 69.2 percent from the field. American players dominated also this game. Benjamin Puckett (205-83, college: Clayton St., agency: I.D.S. Law) stepped up and scored 29 points and 6 rebounds (on 13-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) chipped in 14 points and 11 assists. Four Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) responded with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and guard Jermaine Watson (193-81, college: Boston Coll.) scored 27 points (made all of his seven free throws). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Caballeros de Culiacan maintains fifth place with 12-11 record. Mineros de Caborca lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mineros de Caborca will play again at home against Caballeros de Culiacan (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
