The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (20-6) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by third ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (17-7) 100-99. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rayos de Hermosillo. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Rayos de Hermosillo cut a 18-point halftime deficit to one at the end of the game. Strangely Rayos de Hermosillo outrebounded Tijuana Zonkeys 40-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 52.9 percentage. Tijuana Zonkeys looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Robert Hornsby (201-82, college: Troy) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international power forward Arim Solares (202-83) contributed with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American forward Reginald Larry (198-86, college: Boise St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds and Juan Esteva Hernandez added 23 points in the effort for Rayos de Hermosillo. Five Tijuana Zonkeys and four Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tijuana Zonkeys moved-up to second place. Defending champion Rayos de Hermosillo still keeps top position with six games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys are looking forward to face Fuerza Guinda Nogales (#6) at home in the next round. Rayos de Hermosillo will play against Caballeros de Culiacan (#4) and is hoping to win this game.
