Regular Season Round 33: Sevilla - FIATC Joventut 83-81

A very close game took place in Sevilla between Cajasol and FIATC Joventut. Eighth ranked Cajasol (18-15) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked FIATC Joventut (15-18). Cajasol managed to escape with a 2-point win 83-81 on Saturday evening. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Cajasol dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to FIATC Joventut's 26. They outrebounded FIATC Joventut 41-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American swingman Scott Bamforth (188-89, college: Weber St.) who scored 24 points and 8 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). His fellow American import forward Marcus Landry (201-85, college: Wisconsin) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Cajasol's coach Garcia Aito Reneses used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American-French forward Tariq Kirksay (199-79, college: Iona) who recorded 16 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized Senegalese forward Sitapha Savane (201-78, college: Navy) added 19 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cajasol moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Laboral Kutxa and CAI Zaragoza. Loser FIATC Joventut keeps the ninth position with 18 games lost. They share it with Gipuzkoa. Cajasol will meet higher ranked Regal FC Barcelona (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. FIATC Joventut will play against the league's second-placed Valencia Basket (#2) and hope to secure a win.
