Very important is a road loss of second ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (19-8) against seventh ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (9-18) on Friday night. Visiting Tijuana Zonkeys were defeated by Ostioneros de Guaymas in Guaymas 98-85. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Tijuana Zonkeys. It looked good early as Tijuana Zonkeys took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ostioneros de Guaymas had a 30-20 second period charge getting the lead and Tijuana Zonkeys were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 85-98. Ostioneros de Guaymas dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Tijuana Zonkeys' 44 and made 22-of-26 charity shots (84.6 percent) during the game, while Tijuana Zonkeys only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Tijuana Zonkeys 48-27 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import forward Will Wright (198, college: Frank Phillips JC) helped adding 22 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side the former international power forward Arim Solares (202-83) responded with 26 points and American guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan, agency: Elite Talent Exchange) scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Five Ostioneros de Guaymas and four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Ostioneros de Guaymas maintains seventh place with 9-18 record. Tijuana Zonkeys at the other side keep the second position with eight games lost. Ostioneros de Guaymas will again play against league's second-placed Tijuana Zonkeys at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tijuana Zonkeys will have a break next round.
