No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (16-13) defeated at home 7th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (9-20) 84-78. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ostioneros de Guaymas won third quarter 18-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pioneros Los Mochis players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was a good game for American guard Luther Head (191-82, college: Illinois) who led his team to a victory with 31 points and 7 rebounds. The former international power forward Hugo Carrillo (205-83) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Pioneros Los Mochis' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) answered with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and the other American import forward Billy White (203-89, college: San Diego St.) added 19 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Ostioneros de Guaymas. Four Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Pioneros Los Mochis have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 16-13 record. Ostioneros de Guaymas at the other side keep the seventh position with 20 games lost. They share it with Caborca. Pioneros Los Mochis will again play against Ostioneros de Guaymas (#7) at home in the next round. Ostioneros de Guaymas will have a break next round.
