Eighth-ranked Mineros de Caborca (9-21) made lots of trouble for first ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (23-7) on Wednesday. Rayos de Hermosillo managed to secure only two-point victory 83-81. However their fans expected much easier game. Mineros de Caborca was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Rayos de Hermosillo made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. American forward Reginald Larry (198-86, college: Boise St.) fired 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. point guard Jesus Coronado (185-88) chipped in 19 points. Five Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo's coach Dan Tacheny used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) produced a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry) added 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Defending champion maintains first position with 23-7 record. Mineros de Caborca at the other side dropped to the seventh place with 21 games lost. They share the position with Guaymas. Rayos de Hermosillo are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Garra Canera de Navolato (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mineros de Caborca will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
