EWE Baskets surivived double-overtime thriller to upset Bayern in Munich for the opening win in the series. The guests were tied at the half and again at the end of regular time. But they managed to win double-overtime period 8-8. EWE Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) who scored 25 points. Serbian power forward Nemanja Aleksandrov (210-87) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Deon Thompson (203-88, college: N.Carolina) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import guard Malcolm Delaney (191-89, college: Virginia Tech) added 18 points and 7 assists respectively. Four EWE Baskets and five Bayern Muenchen players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.
