Regular Season Round 1: Pioneros - Panteras 84-66

Pioneros used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Aguascalientes 84-66 on Thursday night. The game without a history. Pioneros led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Pioneros outrebounded Panteras 47-33 including 35 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Quite impressive performance for the former international forward Stephen Soriano (200-85, college: Colorado Mesa) who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 5 rebounds. The former international forward Lonnie Ellis Vasquez (198-83, college: Mississippi Coll.) contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Pioneros players scored in double figures. American-Puerto Rican power forward Angelo Reyes (205-81) answered with 18 points and 9 rebounds and the former international swingman Jorge Alfredo Casillas (196-90) added 18 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Panteras. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Pioneros will face Barreteros in Zacatecas in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Panteras will play on the road against Gigantes in Toluca and hope to win that game.
