The biggest surprise of round 1 in 1Liga took place in Gliwice where host GTK Gliwice (1-0) beat Astoria Bydg. (0-1) 83-68 on Saturday evening. Astoria Bydg. was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 25-8 charge of GTK Gliwice, which allowed them to win the game. 29 personal fouls committed by Astoria Bydg. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Center Lukasz Paul (205-89, agency: Promotex) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. point guard Tomasz Wrobel (186-85) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Four GTK Gliwice players scored in double figures. Guard Marcin Dymala (188-90) produced 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and power forward Sebastian Laydych (203-87) added 22 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Astoria Bydg. will play next round against Spojnia. GTK Gliwice will try to continue on its current victory against Rosa II Radom on the road.
