Asefa Estudiantes used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from San Sebastian 91-74 on Sunday night. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-74. Asefa Estudiantes dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Gipuzkoa's 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a very good performance for point guard Javier Salgado (185-80) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 assists. American forward Diamon Simpson (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Power forward Daniel Diez (203-93) answered with 18 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) and center David Doblas (206-81) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Gipuzkoa. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Asefa Estudiantes will face FIATC Joventut in Badalona in the next round. Gipuzkoa will play at home against Real Madrid and hope to win that game.
